SANTA ANA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 9, 2012--
Global specialty foundry leader, TowerJazz,
launched their U. S. Social Responsibility Plan on Tuesday, February 7,
by transporting, via bus, more than 80 of their employees to Blind
Children’s Learning Center in Santa Ana, Calif. to spend the morning
cleaning toys, painting furniture and assisting visually impaired
children. In addition, a team of TowerJazz engineers created a blueprint
for a future play area.
“We were honored to be selected by TowerJazz to launch their community
involvement program for their Newport Beach facility employees.
Community support is vital and enables us to provide life changing
services for blind and visually impaired children. I was deeply
impressed with the company’s attitude toward volunteerism. They truly
care about the needs in our community. It was evident by the way they
connected with our children,” said Barbara Alvarado, Blind Children’s
Learning Center Board Member.
Many of the employees worked one-on-one with the children in the
classrooms and on the playground. They found it enlightening to
experience that blind and visually impaired children can learn the same
skills as sighted children, they just learn through different methods
that focus on sound and touch.
TowerJazz strives to contribute to the community through a variety of
activities conducted both in Israel and in Orange County. Its goal is to
provide opportunities for under-represented populations,
under-privileged children and support educational programs focusing on
science, mathematics and engineering.
“At TowerJazz, we focus a great deal of attention on our neighboring
communities, donating funds while our employees donate their personal
time. I was extremely proud of not only the number of our employees who
volunteered at Blind Children’s Learning Center, but also the level of
their commitment and participation,” said Russell Ellwanger, Chief
Executive Officer, TowerJazz. “Our service charter is: ‘Educational and
vocational development with a focus on gender equality and minority
integration.’ This year, as we continue to foster a social awareness
mentality among our employees, we will implement a university internship
program for electronic design students, targeting under-represented,
under-privileged minorities and female students.”
About Blind Children’s Learning Center
Blind Children’s Learning Center, a non-profit agency, was founded in
1962 by six blind adults originally called “Services for the Blind
Orange County” to provide support for blind individuals. The founders
quickly discovered the key to helping visually impaired children was to
start working with them at a very early age. Today the agency serves
children and their families through four core programs: Infant Family
Focus, Early Childhood Center, Outreach and Therapy Services, with the
mission to provide early intervention, education and services for blind,
visually impaired or deaf-blind children and their families to empower
independence. For more information, please visit http://www.blindkids.org.
